Used extensively in the living area and the bathroom as both floor and wall cladding, the panels help unify and ground the spaces.
Materials
-
Fibre Cement Panels
-
Plywood
All plywood is left untreated (with the exception of H3 for external), and with exposed fixings. End-grain markings from the distribution depot are celebrated, not hidden.
It was difficult to source quality panels given the local construction boom.
-
Scaffolding Planks
Left untreated unless used externally, the planks retain their manufacturers’s markings (contributing to the casual aesthetic).
-
Colour
Low-sheen exterior vinyl paint on a plywood panel with edges left natural. Tough, weathers well, colours to suit any mood.
-
Scaffolding Props & Pipes
Galvanised, with a variety of duties (including structural) inside and out.
-
Pine Decking
H3 145×32mm timber decking, smooth side uppermost.
75mm galvanised hex-bolts reflect the house’s 900mm square grid.
-
Fence Palings
H3 150×25mm band-sawn timber; readily available and economical. They are expected to last a while as they drain well and dry easily.
Where exposed to the sun and rain they slowly gain a silver patina, else they retain their warm hues.
-
Metals
Corrugated ZincAlume externally to keep the house dry, internally as ceilings to reflect light and blur the line between inside and out. Stainless steel in the kitchen and bathroom. Aluminium chain screens substitute for doors in storage areas.
