Design for Fault Tolerance
The materials were chosen for their function and economy;
I wanted to reflect their qualities in the design — Rough vs. Smooth, Organic vs. Machined.
Exposed fixings, Porch
Ease of construction was another factor. I opted for exposed mechanical fixings, typically galvanised hex bolts or flat-head screws.
Lumberyard markings, Studio
We left manufacturer’s and lumberyard markings on the plywood, deliberately aligning the panels so that markings were exposed.

Aluminium frame, Engine Room
Where possible, make it yourself from what’s available. Offcuts are precious and find their way into productive use, no matter how small.
The trick is in storing (& locating them when they are needed).
